about

Imposter Cycle is an album about feeling fake, phony, and trying to live up to those feelings of being an imposter. It's a song cycle about living with imposter syndrome.

It's also:
Upbeat Vocal Electronic Music +
Ambient Synth Landscapes +
Synthpop +
Music for Introverts

And here are other notes, scraps and ideas I recorded while making Imposter Cycle (not all of this ended up on the album):

Work with loops
Live instrumentation on top of the loops
Think of live performance being adding and subtracting (pre-made) parts with live instrument performance
Warehouse Pop
Drumtrax / Linndrum / CR-78
Four on the floor beats
Prominent synth
Extensive vamping
Repetitive melodic phrasing
Vocal samples
Breathy vocals
Call and answer vocals
Vocal counterpoint
Mixed Major & Minor key
Dorian mode
Prevalent Bass guitar grooves / disco bass
Multiple percussion/ tropical / sampled real drums
Sparse/complex switching arrangements
Dark Dance Pop
Hot Chip / Propaganda / Blancmange
Minimal funky electronic drums / driving new wave bass lines / deadpan lyrics
Masculine/feminine contrast / divisive personality
